Intensive Leadership Program

Leadership isn’t something that you can put in a mission statement. It’s not something you get promoted to. It’s not what you describe yourself to be or what you aspire to, or even what you say you are going to do. Leadership is how you act and the results you get. It’s about how you build trust and how you create an engaging environment in which people have a chance to be their best, realize their potential, and be recognized for their contribution.

In this engaging, interactive, reflective, and inspiring program, David Irvine, one of Canada’s most respected voices on leadership and organizational culture, offers a practical approach to developing leadership capacity in all areas of your life.

Program Description

Who Should Attend

This program is intended for leaders at all levels of organizations who are committed to deepening and increasing their leadership capacity to impact those they serve. Regardless of your position, if you are committed to lead with a sense of presence beyond techniques or titles and have a lasting effect of those you lead and love, then this experience will be life-changing.

In the following overview of the yearlong program, Phase I focuses on leadership presence: the development of who you are as a leader. Phases II through IV focus on leadership practices: the development of the necessary skills for a leader.

Phase I Overview and Leadership Presence

Leadership is not a title to which you get promoted. Leadership is something you earn by the choices you make and the actions you take. It’s about PRESENCE, not position. Great leadership cannot be reduced to technique or position or power. Great leadership comes from the strength of one’s authentic presence - the identity and integrity of the leader. The power of authenticity is an enduring approach for renewing and sustaining workplaces that are depleted and where the human spirit can be trampled, overworked, and undervalued.

Day 1: The Fundamentals of Culture and Leadership
Day 2: Leadership Presence: An Engaged Culture Starts with Internal Alignment

Phase II Bridges Of Trust: Leading Others To Lead

Every person in your organization is a potential leader. Learning to lead without a title is the responsibility of every employee. Building a positive work environment that fosters leadership at every level depends on your ability to build trust, communicate with, and engage others. People will engage in their work to the degree that they engage with their leader. While the focus of Phase I is on personal leadership and effectiveness, and earning the credibility to lead through trustworthiness, Phase II focuses on teamwork, trust, and your relationship to others - how to have a positive impact on those you serve.

Day 1: The Fundamentals Of Trust And Effective Communication
Day 2: The Fundamentals Of Employee Engagement

Phase III Bridges Of Trust: Managing Change and Dealing With Difficult People

To survive, your culture has to change. Once you have made a decision to be a leader, to shift from self-interest to service, you become the agent of change. But where is your road map? Where are your tools? There are eight stages of change. The first is chaos; the eighth is possibility. Once you lead yourself and others to the point where possibility is embraced, transforming fear into confidence, you have done your job. When you have mastered the art of embracing change, you will not only build a strong, vital organization. You will build a strong, vital life.

Day 1: Embracing Change: The Power of Possibility
Day 2: Dealing With Difficult People

Phase IV Getting A Grip On Results

Phase IV focuses on your final leadership accountability: Getting a grip on results – in an engaging, respectful, and courageous way. Results are the name of the game. You can build trust, engage people, and create an open environment, but ultimately, you must create a culture where people produce expected results. Also, knowing that leadership development is a life-long process, not an event, Phase IV deals with taking accountability for your own future development as a leader. Assess your strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities as a leader and map out your own personal leadership strategy.

Day 1: Accountability: Getting A Grip On Results
Day 2: Staying On Track, Staying Focused, and Staying Balanced

Testimonials

"I have been around for a lot of moons and a part of many seminars, both our own and others. We have had various contact with speakers over the years. I found your presentations at our seminar to be one of the most rewarding experiences that we have encountered because of the depth of your message. I can say with deep sincerity that when people ask me about a potential speaker, the name of one individual will stand out and that's David Irvine. We have a good organization, David, and it's a better organization because of what you shared... It was Max DePree who said, "Leadership Is An Art." David, you have it."
